Fix for Microsoft Edge Frozen by Fake Virus Alert

Hi All,

Few days ago, I have upgraded my operating system to Windows 10. Everything was fine and all programs are working smoothly despite the fact that I have warned that some program will not work in this update.

It was nice using Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge as the new browser until yesterday when a virus struck my computer. A fake virus alert suddenly pop-ups saying that my computer is infected. Here is the complete message:

“Microsoft Antivirus has found critical process activity on your PC. You need to clean your computer to prevent system breakage.”

I decided to close the Edge but it won’t let me do that. I have able to close the message box with fake warning but after a fee seconds, another one pop-up on the screen with this alert:
“Microsoft Security Essentials detected potential threats that might compromise your privacy or damage your computer. You need to clean your computer immediately to prevent the system crash.”

This fake alert message also required me to call certain toll free number stating that a Microsoft Technician is going to fix this Edge browser lockup virus. Instead of doing that, I am much compatible searching the web for the solution. After all, I know that this is a fake scam technical support trying to make money from this fraudulent activity.

Here is what you need to do when Edge browser freezes or hangs during fake virus warning pop-ups.

1. Unplug your Ethernet or LAN connector if you are on a wired network.

2. Turn off your Wi-Fi Modem or Disconnect your if your Wireless access PC is connected on a wireless network.

3. Close Edge browser. If this is not possible, repeatedly hit Esc on the keyboard or click OK/Cancel button on the hijacker window.

4. Activate Airplane mode.

a. Click your Network/Internet Settings icon on the taskbar (bottom right of your screen).
b. Settings window will open. Choose Network and Internet.
c. Look at the left column and click on Airplane mode.
d. Turn on Airplane mode using the control on the right panel.

5. Launch Edge Browser and close the offending tab.

CCCleaner will force close that’s what I use also you need to check your down loads it has put stuff on mine
