I freaked out after receiving an email with my password shown as “Subject”. It went to my work email so I immediately call our IT expert to resolve the issue. It turns out that this is just scam email that attempts to extort money from email users. Here is the full message of the scam email.

I do know (mypassword) is your pass. Lets get straight to point. You do not know me and you are probably wondering why you’re getting this e-mail? None has paid me to investigate you.

In fact, I actually placed a malware on the adult videos (porno) site and there’s more, you visited this website to have fun (you know what I mean). When you were watching videos, your browser started functioning as a RDP with a keylogger which provided me with access to your screen and also webcam. after that, my software gathered your entire contacts from your Messenger, FB, and e-mailaccount. After that I made a double video. 1st part shows the video you were watching (you’ve got a fine taste haha), and next part displays the recording of your cam, and its you.

You got two solutions. We will understand each of these solutions in details:

1st option is to just ignore this e mail. As a result, I most certainly will send out your videotape to each one of your contacts and thus visualize regarding the embarrassment yo u will see. Moreover should you be in a romantic relationship, precisely how it would affect?

Next option would be to compensate me $4000. I will call it a donation. In this case, I will straight away discard your video footage. You will keep going on your way of life like this never took place and you will not ever hear back again from me.

You’ll make the payment by Bitcoin (if you don’t know this, search for “how to buy bitcoin” in Google).

BTC Address to send to: 14JD38rd9drq2rMaTEZmEsxNsZ95AFgMGM
    [case-sensitive, copy & paste it]

In case you are curious about going to the law enforcement, good, this e-mail can not be traced back to me. I have taken care of my steps. I am just not attempting to charge a fee very much, I prefer to be paid.

You now have one day to make the payment. I have a special pixel within this message, and right now I know that you have read this e mail. If I don’t receive the BitCoins, I definitely will send your video to all of your contacts including friends and family, colleagues, etc. Nonetheless, if I receive the payment, I will destroy the video right away. If you want evidence, reply Yes & I definitely will send your video recording to your 11 friends. It is a non-negotiable offer and so do not waste my time & yours by replying to this mail.

Most victims’ claims that email passwords were incorrect or old. This only shows that attacker is using data from old security breaches. The message is just a typical blackmail scam that is targeting email users. This is concerning only to people who spent time browsing explicit websites. Even though, it is still not advisable to pay the fee. Just delete the message and keep your account more secure by doing the following:

    1. Optionally you can check if your email address has been compromised in data breach using the tool at haveibeenpwned.

    2. Scan the computer with own anti-virus application. We also suggest double-checking with anti-malware tool that you can download free from these links.
    Malwarebytes Ant-Malware for PC
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac

    3. Change your email password right away. Make it complex. Use capital letters, numbers, and special characters. (ex: My6*pAs5W0r+d)
